The ENA Plug-In Solar Register, Week Two: 40 Verified Kits, Twelve New Records, Three Gone

As at 8 September 2026, the ENA's Type Test Register lists 52 devices under its Plug-in Solar Type and 47 of them are verified. Twelve records arrived on 3 and 4 September, three that were listed on 4 September have gone, and City Plumbing now holds more verified kits than any other name on it.

The register matters because it is half of the legal test. Since 27 August 2026 a plug-in solar device can be sold and used in Great Britain only if it meets the government's interim product specification and has been verified as compliant on the Energy Networks Association's register, the same type test register the distribution network operators use for every small generator that connects under G98. We pull the whole list in a browser, page by page, and keep only the rows whose Type is “Plug-in Solar”. A plain fetch returns nothing, and the ENA's older gen-ttr page will tell you the Type does not exist. It does, on ENA Connect Direct, and the certification tracker is rebuilt from that pull every time we run it.

What Changed Between 4 and 7 September

On 4 September 2026 the Type filter returned 42 devices: 30 Compliant and 12 Non-compliant. Three days later it returns 52: 47 Compliant and 5 Non-compliant. The net change hides two movements in opposite directions.

19 records were added, 17 of them verified. Newest first, as ENA Connect Direct lists them:

Four of those are new names. hdm solar, whose PSK1000 was verified on 2 September, has added a PSK2000. Shenzhen Skyworth, a Chinese panel maker, has an 800VA device through at the first attempt. PowerXpress, a UK company, has a two-panel 920W kit with its mounting included in the record. And The Impact Crowd has a device it calls the Impact Plug-in Solar V1. We found no consumer listing or price for any of the four; they join Perlight, InstaGroup and APsystems on the verified-but-not-on-sale list. The one Non-compliant addition is the APsystems single-panel 510W set, published two days after the same company's two-panel 1,020W set was verified, which is a reminder to match the exact model on a listing to the exact record.

Three records disappeared. None of them was amended or re-listed under a new reference as far as we can find; the rows are simply not returned any more.

• Plugsol Limited, Plugsol Light (Hoymiles HMS-800-2WB inverter), reference PLUGS/21301/V1, which was Non-compliant on 4 September.
• Perlight Solar Co., Ltd., PowerPlug FLEX+ 500 (PLM-PPF-M-500), reference PERLI/21200/V1, which was Compliant on 4 September.

City Plumbing's Eight Kits

The trade merchant's first two-panel kit was verified on 28 August. On 3 September seven more followed, which gives City Plumbing 8 verified kits and the largest verified range on the list. Every one is a two-panel set of the same design: two 470W to 525W panels, from DMEGC, Jinko or its own JNK label, on a Hoymiles microinverter, either the HF-800-WB or the HMS-800-2WB.

That's the instructive part. Both of those Hoymiles inverters were themselves published on 3 September as bare devices and both are Non-compliant. The register assesses the submission as made: a kit is verified as a kit, and the inverter inside it is a separate record with a separate outcome. It cuts the other way too. The two Plugsol kits built on the HMS-800-2WB were Non-compliant on 4 September and have now left the listing altogether, so an inverter appearing inside a verified kit tells you nothing about a different kit that uses it.

None of the eight is on sale yet. When we searched City Plumbing's website on 8 September 2026 it returned two products for “plug-in solar kit”, both UKSOL kits it already stocked, and nothing under its own name.

The Names Still Non-Compliant

5 records carry the Non-compliant assessment. The ENA defines it as a sub-category of “Further Information Required”: the device cannot be deemed compliant at this stage and will be reviewed again. InstaGroup's INS-PPG-800 sat there through August and was verified on 27 August after its ninth amendment. Non-compliant is a waiting room, not a verdict.

For most readers the two that matter are EcoFlow's EF-PS-800, which has not moved since 26 August, and Octopus Energy's M1-800-E, published on 2 September. Octopus is nonetheless selling plug-in bundles from £450, and its product pages give no register reference at all; we set that out in a separate report. Anker has no record under this Type, and its new Solarbank 4 E5000 Pro is, by Anker's own account, a hardwired battery system rather than a plug-in kit.

What Is Actually On Sale

A Compliant record isn't a product on a shelf. Of the 47 verified kits, we have found a live consumer listing for 13. The retailers have not changed since our first-week report: Argos with six UKSOL bundles, City Plumbing with two of the same UKSOL kits, PatioSun and Thunder Energy selling direct, and Modular Solar through a single Amazon listing.

Of the seven retailers DESNZ named in June, Amazon remains the only one with a verified kit listed, and that is a third-party brand's listing. We found nothing verified at Asda, B&Q, Currys, Lidl, Screwfix or Wickes on this check either. The deals page carries every verified kit with a price alongside the battery systems that need an electrician.

How to Check the ENA Register Yourself

If you are planning to install one, go to ENA Connect Direct, open the Type Test Register, and set the device Type filter to “Plug-in Solar”. Each row gives the reference, the compliance status, the date published, the manufacturer, the model and the capacity in kW. Match the model code on the listing in front of you to the model in the record, not just the brand: Perlight and APsystems both have Compliant and Non-compliant sets under one product name. A compliant kit also carries the specification declaration and a QR code on its label, and that code should lead you to the same reference.

G98 Notification: Why the Register Exists

The list exists because of Engineering Recommendation G98 in the first place. Every small renewable generator that connects to the public low voltage network in Great Britain, from a rooftop PV installation fitted by an installer to a plug-in kit, has to be type tested and then notified to the distribution network operator for the area. G98 covers anything up to 16A per phase, around 3.68 kW on a single-phase supply; G99 takes over above that and needs the DNO's agreement before connection; G100 is the separate recommendation for export-limitation schemes. A verified plug-in kit doesn't remove the notification.
