EcoFlow STREAM 5000 review: UK price, specs and release date

The EcoFlow STREAM 5000 stores 5,024 Wh, about five kilowatt-hours, takes up to 5,000 W from solar panels and supplies up to 3,000 W to your home. The official EcoFlow UK store sells it for £1,599, with dispatch estimated for the fourth week of October 2026.

EcoFlow sells it as the next step up from its balcony range, and the name doesn't help: it shares the STREAM badge with EcoFlow's smaller plug-in products. In the UK it's a home battery. It has to be wired in by an electrician, and it can't use the plug-in rules that came in on 27 August 2026. We haven't tested one. This review is built from EcoFlow's UK specifications, checked on 21 September 2026, and the first independent test we've seen.

What you get

A 45.4 kg box that stands on the floor or goes outside (it's rated IP65). Solar panels connect to four separate inputs (MPPTs) of 1,250 W each, and you can connect up to 12 panels. The battery stores that power and the built-in inverter supplies your house circuits. EcoFlow includes the EcoFlow Smart Meter Dual CT, a clamp meter at the consumer unit (the distribution board) that tells the system what the house is drawing and cuts output if it detects an overload. The unit carries a 10-year warranty.

The output figures need a second look. EcoFlow's headline is 3,000 W, but its own FAQ says one unit gives 2,500 W from the off-grid outlet, rising to 3,000 W with an expansion battery. Grid-tied output at 3,000 W also depends on how the panels and batteries are set up. Check the figure for your setup with EcoFlow or your installer.

The STREAM 5000 is part of a small family:

• STREAM AC 5000 (£1,499): the same battery with no solar inputs, for adding storage to panels you already have.
• Expansion Battery 5000 (£1,299 on 21 September): an extra 5 kWh pack. Each STREAM 5000 or AC 5000 takes up to two, for about 15 kWh.
• STREAM Gateway: links up to six units, each with up to two expansion batteries. That's how EcoFlow gets to 90 kWh, 18,000 W of output and 30,000 W of solar. Those are system figures, not what one box does.

Where it sits in the STREAM Series

EcoFlow made its name in portable power stations, and the first-generation STREAM range brought that battery experience to balcony solar: the original STREAM paired panels, a microinverter and a battery you could grow. Today's STREAM Series splits in two. The plug-in side runs from the STREAM Microinverter through the STREAM Ultra, STREAM Pro and STREAM AC Pro to the Ultra X, and EcoFlow's battery-free STREAM plug-in kits are verified for the UK's plug-in route. The STREAM 5000 and AC 5000 are the whole-home side: the same EcoFlow app and the same self-consumption logic, with far more storage and a hardwired connection instead of a plug-and-play socket connection. UK price, release date and bundles

It's £1,599 on EcoFlow's UK store as of 1 October 2026, against a list price of £1,799, and EcoFlow was including the smart meter. On 21 September EcoFlow also sold:

• STREAM 5000 with four 500 W panels: £1,999 (list £2,499)
• STREAM 5000 with one Expansion Battery 5000: £2,898 (list £3,298)
• Expansion Battery 5000 on its own: £1,299

Every option showed an estimated dispatch in the fourth week of October. That's EcoFlow's estimate, not a promised delivery date. EcoFlow ran a £9.90 deposit offer until 15 September; that's over, so you now pay in full when you order. It's also on Amazon UK through EcoFlow's own listing.

None of those prices include installation, and EcoFlow doesn't quote for it. Get an electrician's price before you order the box.

How it launched

EcoFlow announced the STREAM 5000 on 23 June 2026 with the line “Your first balcony power plant. Your future whole-home energy”,. The European early-bird prices were €1,599 for the STREAM 5000 (RRP €1,899), €1,499 for the AC 5000 (RRP €1,699) and €1,299 for the Expansion Battery (RRP €1,599). EcoFlow's European bundles ran from €2,099 for the STREAM 5000 with four panels to €5,899 for a whole-home set with two expansion batteries, ten panels and the Gateway. UK pounds came later and ended up at similar numbers.

Can you plug the STREAM 5000 into a socket?

No. From 27 August 2026, SI 2026 No. 848 lets you buy and use a plug-in solar device in Great Britain if it meets the government's product specification. That specification caps output at 800 VA and 3.5 A and doesn't allow a battery inside the device. The STREAM 5000 has a 5 kWh battery, so it's out, even if you turn its output down to 800 W. EcoFlow's UK page says the same: it needs a professional connection and must not feed power into a household socket.

That isn't a safety finding or a ban. A 5 kWh battery has always needed a normal installation in the UK, and the new rules didn't change that. It just means the STREAM 5000 goes in the way a rooftop system would.

It isn't EcoFlow as a brand that's excluded, either. On 22 September 2026 the ENA assessed two battery-free EcoFlow kits Compliant for the plug-in route: its STREAM plug-in kits for flat roofs, facades and pitched roofs, and a kit pairing the EF-PS-800 microinverter with SPDG505 panels. What installation involves

• An electrician. They'll check the connection, protection and location against BS 7671 and building rules. Part P applies in England and Wales; Scotland and Northern Ireland have their own requirements.
• Telling the network operator. G98 covers fully type-tested systems up to 16 A per phase, and your installer has to confirm yours qualifies, counting anything you already have. Bigger or expanded systems may need G99 approval before they're connected. In Northern Ireland it's NIE Networks' G98/NI or G99/NI. Our G98 guide covers each operator.
• Space. The base unit is 295 × 298 × 489 mm and 45.4 kg, plus any expansion batteries and the clearances in EcoFlow's instructions. Agree where it goes with the installer; IP65 doesn't make every outdoor spot suitable.

An independent test

The YouTube channel UpsideDownFork put the AC 5000 on an energy meter. It took 5.9 kWh to charge from empty and gave back 4.92 kWh at an 800 W discharge, an 83.3% round trip, and 4.48 kWh at 300 W. It drew about 11 W on standby and boiled a kettle off-grid at about 2.37 kW. That's one reviewer testing one unit of the AC model, which EcoFlow rates at 2,500 W to the house against this model's 3,000 W.

App, tariffs and smart-home support

Most of what a battery like this saves comes from your tariff. On a time-of-use tariff the STREAM 5000 charges from the grid when power is cheap and runs the house from the battery when it's expensive. Solar generation gets used first, and surplus solar energy goes into the battery rather than out to the grid. EcoFlow's OASIS 3.0 software and Smart Tariff Management run this from the EcoFlow app, using your solar output, usage, the weather forecast and tariff data. EcoFlow claims it lifts solar utilisation, the share of your own generation you use yourself, by up to 32%.

The first STREAM range was criticised for only working with EcoFlow's own app. This one works with Shelly, HomeWizard, Everhome, Tibber and Homey, and EcoFlow says it works with more than 1,000 PV and metering setups. There's also a Local Mode that keeps it running without the internet, with a compatible smart meter. EcoFlow's small print says AI functions, dynamic tariffs, solar forecasts, statistics and firmware updates don't work offline, so check what you'll need before relying on it.

The savings claims

EcoFlow advertised savings of up to €2,827 a year for the STREAM 5000, and up to €9,262 for the largest whole-home setup, with 12 panels producing around 5,600 kWh a year. Those are German figures for a four-person German household on German tariffs. UK electricity is priced differently, the UK gets less sun than southern Germany, and what you save depends on how much of your solar you use yourself. There's no reliable UK figure yet. Safety features

EcoFlow lists 15 layers of protection, including anti-islanding, thermal-runaway containment, a ceramic coating on the cells, an aerogel thermal barrier and 24 temperature sensors in each pack. The smart meter can also shut output down if it detects an overload. These are EcoFlow's claims; we haven't tested them.

STREAM 5000 vs Anker Solarbank 4 Pro

Anker's Solarbank 4 Pro is its closest rival: 5 kWh, 5,000 W of solar input, four MPPTs and an electrician install. The STREAM 5000 is £100 cheaper and puts out more power. Anker's is in stock, has a slightly better weather rating (IP66 against IP65) and works with Home Assistant. Get installation quotes for both, since they can change which works out cheaper. STREAM 5000 vs the first STREAM range

The first STREAM range was built around Europe's 800 W balcony limit. The STREAM Microinverter is the plug-in unit with no battery. The STREAM Ultra adds a 1.92 kWh battery with four solar inputs, the Pro and Max have the same capacity with fewer inputs, the Ultra X holds 3.84 kWh and the AC Pro has no solar inputs. The STREAM 5000 is the second generation and a much bigger system that you expand by adding battery packs alongside it.

Every model with a battery (Ultra, Ultra X, Pro, Max, AC Pro, AC 5000 and STREAM 5000) is outside the UK plug-in route. Who should buy the STREAM 5000?

• Homeowners on a time-of-use tariff with space for the box and room for four or more panels, who want storage they can add to later.
• Anyone who can wait until late October and would rather pay £100 less than get Anker's in-stock alternative now.
• Not renters or people in flats looking at balcony solar because a roof isn't an option. It needs permission and an electrician, and moving it later means a fresh installation. A verified plug-in kit is the product the new rules were written for.

What we couldn't confirm

• EcoFlow's UK spec table doesn't name the battery chemistry.
• The exact cabling and connection your installation needs: ask EcoFlow and your electrician.
• A guaranteed delivery date: late October is an estimate.
