The EcoFlow PowerStream is a microinverter rated at 600 W to 800 W that feeds solar generation into a home through a socket. It contains no battery, so it is not excluded by the battery rule — but it is not listed under the ENA register’s Plug-in Solar type, so it cannot use the UK plug-in route.

What the PowerStream Actually Does
Panels make DC. Your house runs on 230 V AC. The PowerStream sits between the two, converts one to the other, synchronises with the mains and pushes the result into a socket.
From there it behaves like any other generator on your ring circuit. The solar energy your panels produce goes to whatever is drawing power at that moment — fridge, router, standby loads, the kettle if it happens to be on — and you import less from the grid to cover it. Nothing needs to be told about it. Nothing needs configuring per appliance.
Plug and play is the honest description of the physical job. Two solar panels, a bracket, the micro-inverter, a cable to a socket. No electrician, no fixed wiring, nothing bolted through a wall — which is exactly why the regulations had to be rewritten to accommodate it, and why an electrician becomes necessary the moment you go beyond this scale.
That last point causes more confusion than anything else about this product, so it is worth stating plainly: you do not need smart plugs for the power to be used. EcoFlow smart plugs exist so the system can see what individual appliances are drawing and make better decisions about when to discharge a paired battery. They are a measurement and control layer. Generation flows into the house with or without them.
The other recurring question is whether this is just a grid-tie inverter. Functionally, yes — that is the category. What EcoFlow adds is the app, the battery pairing and the plug-and-play cabling.
Verified Specifications, and What EcoFlow Doesn’t Publish
EcoFlow publishes less about the PowerStream than you would expect. Here is what comes from EcoFlow’s own site.

EcoFlow describes the unit as “600W to 800W Upgradable” and says upgrade instructions are to follow, without stating what the mechanism is; its EU store also sells 600 W and 800 W bundles as separate SKUs. So treat the upgrade as EcoFlow’s claim rather than a settled software toggle. The range exists because European markets moved from a 600 W limit to 800 W, and the UK’s own cap landed at 800 VA, so the ceiling matches.
If you are pairing your own panels rather than EcoFlow’s, check the connectors physically match before ordering — EcoFlow labels its rigid panels with a “Solar Connector” rather than naming a standard.
What EcoFlow does not publish, and what therefore cannot go on this page as fact:

The IP67 rating, by contrast, is published — it is in EcoFlow’s own PowerStream manual, which states the unit “can be installed either indoors or outdoors”.
On the plug specifically: units reviewed through mid-2026 shipped with a Schuko plug needing an adapter, and newer UK stock has been reported to ship with a fused BS 1363 plug instead. We have not been able to confirm which is in the box today, so check the listing. That matters more than it used to, because the plug-in route requires a factory-fitted BS 1363 plug with a 5 A fuse and prohibits adaptors and convertors outright.
Is the PowerStream Still Sold in the UK?
Worth asking, and the answer is less clear than it should be.
The PowerStream product URL on uk.ecoflow.com returns a plain HTTP 404 — no redirect, no replacement page — and there is no PowerStream unit anywhere in the UK catalogue. What survives is a collection page titled “PowerStream Components”, which holds accessories only: the Smart Plug, a solar tracker, extension and parallel cables, tilt brackets, a balcony hook kit and a 450 W panel. The same delisting has happened on EcoFlow’s EU store. The UK storefront leads with the STREAM series throughout — the balcony solar system bundles, the STREAM AC Pro, the STREAM Series Solar Plant listings, the lot.
None of that is an announcement, and we are not going to report it as one. EcoFlow has not said the product is discontinued in the UK.
A components page with no product to fit them to is a fairly clear signal, even without an announcement. We looked for current UK stock through third-party sellers and did not find a live PowerStream listing worth pointing you at.
If you do find one, that is a real consideration. A ten-year warranty is only as useful as the firmware support behind it, and support for a delisted product is exactly the thing to ask about before paying.
PowerStream vs the STREAM Microinverter
These get conflated constantly, including by retailers — we found one UK listing with “PowerStream” in the URL and “STREAM Microinverter” as the heading.
The PowerStream is the first-generation unit, launched in 2023, rated 600–800 W. The STREAM Microinverter is the second-generation replacement, rated higher, with two MPPT channels. Both are IP67; the difference is not weatherproofing. Our review of the STREAM Microinverter covers that unit in detail.
Then there is the rest of the STREAM range — Ultra, Ultra X, Pro, Max, AC Pro and the STREAM 5000 — all of which have batteries in them. Every one of those is outside the plug-in route on the battery rule alone. The STREAM 5000 review sets out where that leaves the largest of them.
So within EcoFlow’s own range, the microinverters are the only products with the right electrical shape for the plug-in route, and neither is verified on the register.
Pairing It With a Battery — and Why That Changes the Legal Route
The PowerStream’s distinguishing feature is that it talks to EcoFlow’s portable power stations. Excess solar charges a Delta 2, Delta 2 Max or Delta Pro during the day — EcoFlow says it works with all its portable power stations, from 256 Wh to 3.6 kWh — and the unit discharges into the house in the evening. In effect you get a solar battery without buying a fixed home battery, at whatever capacity you already own — 1 kWh, 2 kWh, or the high capacity units further up the range. Backup power for outages comes as a side effect, and an off-grid mode exists if you want it.
This is the part of the proposition that has kept the PowerStream relevant. Nobody else lets you bolt storage onto a balcony system using hardware you might already have in a cupboard.
That is genuinely useful, and it raises a question nobody has answered.
The open question. IPS v2 does not permit battery storage within the device. The PowerStream’s battery is not within the device — it is a separate power station connected to it. So does a PowerStream-plus-Delta system fall outside the plug-in route, or not?
There are two defensible readings and we are not going to pick one.
One: the rule is about what is inside the certified product. A microinverter with no cells in it meets the specification, and what you plug into it afterwards is your business, in the same way that what you plug into any socket is.
Two: the rule exists because storage changes the electrical behaviour of the installation — bidirectional flows, different fault conditions, a different risk profile on the ring circuit. On that reading, the arrangement is what matters, not the enclosure.
We do not know which reading DESNZ or the DNOs will take, and guessing would be worse than useless to you.

The App, Smart Plugs and Smart Meters
The EcoFlow app is the strongest thing about the ecosystem and it is the reason people stay in it. Live generation, live consumption, battery state, historical data, over Wi-Fi and Bluetooth.
One clarification, because EcoFlow’s marketing blurs it: Matter support belongs to the Smart Plug, not to the PowerStream. It is the plugs that integrate with Apple, Amazon, Google and Samsung smart-home systems. The inverter itself talks to the EcoFlow app and nothing else.
Smart plugs give the system per-appliance visibility. A smart meter gives it a view of the whole supply, which is what turns guesswork into scheduling. Neither is required to generate; both are required for the system to be clever about when it discharges.
The honest caveat is cloud dependence. Most of the useful behaviour runs through EcoFlow’s service, and that has been a consistent criticism of the platform across reviews.
Can You Run Two of Them?
This is the most misreported point in UK plug-in solar, so read it carefully.
IPS v2 permits one device per final ring circuit. That is a change from the earlier draft, and 61% of consultation respondents backed it. But the specification’s own note says GB network connection requirements also apply, and Engineering Recommendation G98 Issue 2 Amendment 1 2026 restricts connections to one device per household.
Two limits apply and the tighter one wins. From 27 August 2026, one device per household, whatever your circuit count.
Anyone telling you that you can run one per ring circuit is quoting the specification without the network rule attached to it.
One more jurisdictional point, because a lot of coverage gets it wrong. The limb of SI 2026 No. 848 that makes use lawful amends the Electricity Safety, Quality and Continuity Regulations 2002, and it extends to England, Wales and Scotland only. Say Great Britain, not the UK. G98 is a GB document; Northern Ireland uses G98/NI, and the specification says applying it there is subject to further consideration.
Realistic UK Output and Whether It Pays
An 800 W solar system on a south facing balcony in June is a genuinely useful thing. The same system in December, under cloudy skies, is not. Three panels’ worth of generation on a bright March afternoon can disappear to almost nothing by November.
What determines the return is not peak output — it is self-consumption. Every kWh you use as your panels produce it is worth the full retail unit rate off your electric bill. Every one you export without a Smart Export Guarantee tariff is worth nothing, and SEG generally requires MCS certification that a DIY plug-in install will not have.
That is why base load matters more than headline wattage. A household with someone home during the day, a fridge, a router and a home office will self-consume most of what an 800 W array produces and maximise the value of it. An empty flat between eight and six will not.
Bifacial panels and a compact mounting arrangement can help at the margins. Neither changes the arithmetic much.
We are not putting a payback figure on this page, because there is no verified current UK price to calculate one from. For context, the government’s own estimate for plug-in solar is £70–£110 a year off your energy bills.
