UKSOL is the closest thing the new UK plug-in solar market has to an incumbent. It has sold British-branded solar panels since 2015 from Gerrards Cross in Buckinghamshire, it was the first brand verified compliant in the Plug-in Solar category of the ENA register, on 18 August 2026, and it is the only brand a mainstream high-street retailer ranges: Argos lists six Pro bundles and City Plumbing two. 7 kits are verified, from the single-panel Compact to the two-panel 1,260W Pro Max, every one limited to the same 800 VA output. We have not tested one; this review is built from the register, UKSOL’s own store, guides and FAQs, and the retailers’ listings.
Our verdict
The safe first choice in this market: a decade-old British company, register verification before anyone else, Sheffield assembly, a 10-year warranty and three places to buy. It is not the cheapest way into plug-in solar, and the wall-capable hybrid kits were advance orders for 1 November at our check, whatever the retailer delivery estimates suggest. If you want a kit on the ground this month, the ground-mount pair is shipping, and it is cheapest direct.

Shipping now against advance orders
This is the detail the listings blur. UKSOL’s own range page splits the kits in two. The ground-mount Compact 460W and Duo 890W, with a frame designed and built in Sheffield, are on sale now with click and collect or two-person delivery. The hybrid-mount range, the four kits that can go on a wall as well as the ground, is labelled “Coming November 1st” on uksol.uk, and each hybrid store listing takes an advance order for availability from 1 November 2026.
Argos, meanwhile, gave estimated delivery of late October on the same hybrid bundles when we checked its listings. Those two statements sit close enough that neither is obviously wrong, but if timing matters, treat a hybrid kit as a November purchase and do not plan an October weekend around an Argos estimate.
What is in the box
Per UKSOL’s store listings and FAQs: the panel or panels, an 800W smart microinverter with Wi-Fi and Bluetooth monitoring through a smartphone app, the mounting frame or adjustable stand, a 4-metre AC connection cable (the Duo adds 2-metre DC cables), the manual and the warranty documents. The quick setup guide names the inverter as the APsystems EZ1-M, IP67 rated, and tells you to “Insert the supplied fused UK plug”, which is the BS 1363 plug the specification requires.
The panels are UKSOL’s own TOPCon N-type monocrystalline modules: one 460W panel in the ground Compact, two 445W in each Duo, one 515W in the hybrid Compact, two 515W in the Plus and two 630W in the Max. Whatever the panel wattage, the inverter caps output at 800 VA, so the bigger arrays buy more output in dull conditions rather than a higher peak. UKSOL says as much itself, and our guide to the 800VA limit explains the trade-off.
What UKSOL says about the price
UKSOL publishes an unusually direct defence of its pricing: the price includes 20% VAT, two-person delivery it puts at roughly £95, the Sheffield-made frame, UK assembly, certification and auditing costs, a 10-year British warranty and UK support. Fair points all, and the honest comparison is that City Plumbing’s own DMEGC kits start at roughly half the price of a UKSOL Compact. You are paying for the brand, the mount and the high-street availability; whether that is worth it is a judgement, not a fact.
Check these before you buy
- Argos’s 1,260W title. Argos titles the Pro Max bundle “ground mount”; its description and model code are the hybrid-mount kit on the register. You are buying the hybrid kit.
- City Plumbing’s model fields. Both of its UKSOL listings carry a manufacturer model field that differs from the part number (a 515W code on the 460W kit, a hybrid code on the ground kit). The contents match the register; confirm the model before buying.
- Ground means ground. UKSOL’s site notice says kits should not be installed on a flat roof, wall or anywhere elevated without a qualified professional assessing the site first, and the ground-mount kits are sold for ground-level use only.
- “From” pricing direct. UKSOL’s store prices the ground kits “from” the figure shown, with collection and two-person delivery as the options, so the delivered price can differ from the sticker.
The company behind the kits
UKSOL Ltd was established in 2015 and is based in Gerrards Cross, Buckinghamshire, selling its panels into more than 50 countries. It presents an ethics-led pitch: Solar Stewardship Initiative membership, SMETA-audited factories and a recommendation in Ethical Consumer magazine’s September 2025 edition, all its own claims but specific, checkable ones. For plug-in solar the relevant point is simpler: this is an established panel company that moved first on UK compliance, not a brand invented for the legalisation.
After you buy
Plug into a socket circuit directly, no extension leads or adaptors, and notify your network operator under G98. Only one plug-in device is allowed per household for now. UKSOL’s own FAQ tells buyers to keep the model, serial number and compliance reference for the notification, which is good advice with any kit. To weigh UKSOL against everything else verified and on sale, see the best plug-in solar kits and the certification tracker.
Questions
Are UKSOL plug-in solar kits legal in the UK?
Yes, within the rules that took effect on 27 August 2026. UKSOL was the first brand verified compliant in the Plug-in Solar category of the ENA register, on 18 August 2026, and 7 of its Pro kits are verified. Match the kit you buy to its register reference, and note UKSOL's own disclaimer that plug-in connection is approved only in England, Wales and Scotland.
What is the difference between UKSOL's ground-mount and hybrid-mount kits?
The ground-mount Compact 460W and Duo 890W are on sale now, with a frame designed and built in Sheffield, and UKSOL says they are for ground-level use only. The hybrid-mount kits (515W to 1,260W) can be configured for wall or ground mounting, and at our check UKSOL's store listed them as advance orders available from 1 November 2026.
Is it cheaper to buy UKSOL kits from Argos, City Plumbing or direct?
At our checks the hybrid-mount kits cost the same everywhere, £599 to £989. The two ground-mount kits were cheapest direct from UKSOL's store, at £599 and £899 against £679 and £999 at Argos, with City Plumbing between the two. Delivery terms differ: UKSOL offers click and collect or two-person delivery, Argos its own delivery slots, City Plumbing free delivery.
What inverter do UKSOL kits use?
The store listings say an 800W smart microinverter with Wi-Fi and Bluetooth app monitoring, IP67 rated. UKSOL's quick setup guide names it as the APsystems EZ1-M, and UKSOL distributes APsystems microinverters in the UK. Output is capped at 800 VA, the UK limit, whatever the panel wattage.
What warranty do UKSOL kits come with?
UKSOL gives the kits a 10-year British warranty, with UK-based technical support, and says a kit could work for 25 years. The company has sold solar panels under its own brand since 2015, which is worth more than a warranty from a brand created for the legalisation.
Do UKSOL kits work in a power cut?
No. UKSOL's own FAQ says the microinverter includes anti-islanding protection and shuts down automatically if the grid fails, to protect engineers working on the network. That is true of every compliant plug-in kit, none of which may contain a battery.
