GoodWe has two plug-in solar devices on the ENA Type Test Register: the GW2K-EMA-UK-G10 and the GW3K-EMA-UK-G10, both at 0.8 kW single phase and both currently listed as Non-compliant. Both records were superseded and republished on 11 August 2026. GoodWe publishes no specification for either.

What the Register Actually Says
The register is the primary source here, and it is short.

Manufacturer of record on both entries is GoodWe Technologies Co., Ltd. Both were the first devices to appear under the register’s “Plug-in Solar” type, which did not exist at our check on 24 July 2026. They first appeared on 29 July as /V1records; both were superseded overnight on 10–11 August and republished as /A1 amendments. If you are searching the register yourself, the /V1 references no longer resolve to the current record. At our last check, neither amended record was being returned by the register’s own device-type filter.
The status is worth reading carefully, because it is easy to overstate in both directions.
On Connect Direct, the device pages say a non-compliant device “has been assessed by ENA’s engineers as non-compliant” and that “distribution network operators are unlikely to accept this equipment on their networks”. Device status, the register notes, is “assigned by ENA appointed evaluators”. Read alone, that sounds final.
ENA’s fuller taxonomy says otherwise. Non-compliant is one of three sub-categories of a parent status called “Further Information Required” — meaning that “following review of the device and documentation, further information is required before a ‘compliant’ status can be achieved”. For the Non-compliant sub-category specifically: the device “cannot be deemed compliant at this stage”, and once the comments have been actioned and the documentation updated by the manufacturer, “it will be reviewed again - in due course”.
So this is a staging state, not a verdict. It is not a safety finding, and neither device failed anything. What it does mean is that as at 11 August 2026 neither GoodWe model is compliant, and neither is something a buyer can rely on. Whether that changes, and when, is not ours to predict.
One detail on both records that is easy to miss: the G98 standard version they are assessed against is listed as Issue 2, dated 10 March 2025. That is the current GB document, and it is the same one that carries the one-device-per-household restriction discussed below.
Everything above is as at 11 August 2026. This list has moved every few days since it appeared — 29 July, 3 August, 7 August, 11 August — so check the register rather than trusting this table in a month’s time.
Who GoodWe Is, and What They Publish for Installers
GoodWe Technologies is an established manufacturer of solar inverters and energy storage with a genuine UK market presence, selling through installers rather than off a shelf. The published range is rooftop territory, and it is broad.
On the residential solar side there is the XS G3 at 0.7–3.3 kW single phase, the DNS G3 and G4 at 3–6 kW, the MS G3 and G4 up to 10 kW, and the three-phase SDT G3 from 4 kW upwards. For energy storage there is the ES G2 and ES Uniq hybrid inverter families, the ES LD, the battery-ready EH PLUS+, the ET series, the all-in-one ESA series, and the Lynx battery range across seven series including the Lynx U G3. Alongside those sit C&I inverters, utility solutions at utility-scale, an EV charger line for electric vehicle charging, and software and monitoring accessories. The download centre runs to well over a hundred entries.
That is a complete smart energy management system offer, in other words: solar and battery, back-up and blackout protection during an outage, EV charging, and smart control of the lot from one brand. The storage system is modular, so battery flexibility is built into the setup. It is sold on long-term reliability, and GoodWe’s European warranty gives 10 years on residential on-grid and hybrid inverters produced from 1 January 2026 — older units get five, extendable to ten through a GOODWE PLUS+ installer with the system connected to SEMS. The global warranty is five years. GoodWe showed the latest of the range at Intersolar.
None of that is unusual. Every serious manufacturer in this space now sells the same shape of thing — a solar solution, energy storage solutions bolted to it, storage solutions for commercial sites, and smart management across the top. Green energy as a single product line, for commercial and industrial buyers as much as domestic ones.
They also publish microinverters. Three of them: the MIS Series at 1.6–2 kW, the MIS G2 Series 4-in-1 at 1,600–2,250 W with four MPPTs, and — this is the interesting one — a MIS Series 2-in-1 rated at 800/799 W, which is exactly the plug-in class. GoodWe’s own copy says the 2-in-1 is “designed for both balcony and rooftop solar systems”.
And there is a balcony product proper. The ESA-Athena Seriesis listed at 0.8 kW / 1.92 kWh, single phase, as a “Balcony All-in-One”, with an ESA Athena S3 micro-storage system that GoodWe describes as designed for balcony and DIY use.
So this is not a manufacturer short of relevant PV or clean energy experience, and balcony solar is not a category it has stayed out of. It has a documented 800 W microinverter and a documented balcony all-in-one already in the catalogue.
What GoodWe Has Not Published
Which makes the next part specific, and worth stating carefully.
We checked GoodWe’s own download centre and product pages on 11 August 2026. Neither carries an EMA seriesat all, and neither carries an entry for the GW2K-EMA-UK-G10 or the GW3K-EMA-UK-G10. Nothing under “EMA”, “GW2K” or “GW3K” appears anywhere across the product categories or the download library.
This is not a claim that GoodWe does no balcony solar — as above, it plainly does. It is narrower and stranger than that: two specific models are registered for the UK market by a manufacturer that documents its entire range in detail, and publishes nothing at all about these two.
There is therefore no verified figure for input voltage, input current, MPPT count, efficiency, dimensions, enclosure rating, cooling, warranty or plug type. Nothing on whether monitoring is built-in or needs a gateway. No statement on compatibility with any particular solar panels. Most consequentially of all, nothing published on whether either device includes battery storage — the single thing that would settle route eligibility, because the specification excludes storage within the device outright. That question is live precisely because GoodWe’s existing balcony product, the ESA-Athena, does have a battery in it.
An installer looking at these two models would have no data sheet to work from. A homeowner has less than that.
It is worth being fair about why that might be. A device registered a month before the rules commence is not necessarily a device with a finished consumer launch behind it, and manufacturers do not usually publish specifications for hardware they have not announced. The absence is a fact about what a buyer can check today. It is not, on its own, a criticism of GoodWe.
The naming does have an explanation, and it is a good one. The GW3K-EMA-UK-G10 record carries this comment from the manufacturer on the register itself:
“Although the model name indicates 3 kW, the default on-grid output is 0.8 kW for plug-in solar applications. Changing the output to 3 kW requires wiring by an authorized installer and configuration via the installer App.”
The GW2K record carries the same note in its own terms, with 2 kW in place of 3 kW. So neither name is an error. Both devices ship limited to 0.8 kW, and unlocking the rest takes an authorised installer and a rewire — which would take them out of the plug-in route entirely. That is a genuinely useful thing for a buyer to know and, as far as we can find, it appears nowhere in consumer coverage.
What Would Have to Change Before You Could Buy One
Three gates, and they are the same three for any plug-in device.
A verified listing on the ENA Type Test Register. Registration alone is not enough under IPS v2, and neither GoodWe entry has it.
An IPS compliance declaration on the product itself, together with the on-product statement that DNO notification is required and a QR code linking to the registration guidance. A CE or UKCA mark is not this. Marketplace listings will wave those at you; they are not the test.
A factory-fitted BS 1363 plug with a 5 A fuse and partially insulated pins. Extension leads, multi-way adaptors, RCD adaptors and travel adaptors are all prohibited, so an adapter is not a way round it.
Beyond the product, DNO notification remains mandatory — what is still in development is the simplified registration route, not the obligation. And note the tighter of the two device limits: IPS v2 permits one device per final ring circuit, but Engineering Recommendation G98 Issue 2 Amendment 1 2026 restricts it to one device per household, and that is what binds. If GoodWe brings these to market, none of that will have been optional.
What a Plug-In Device Would Change for Homeowners
Worth saying what is actually at stake, because it is easy to lose in the compliance detail.
Rooftop solar in the UK is an installer product. You get a survey, a quote, a hybrid inverter, usually a lithium battery, sometimes an EV charger and a heat pump conversation alongside it, and a five-figure bill. It works, and it is not available to most renters or leaseholders.
A 0.8 kW plug-in device is the opposite proposition. No installation process, no scaffolding, no outage, no optimiser, nothing bolted to the building. You hang two solar panels, plug the thing in, and cut a slice off your daytime energy bills through self-consumption of your own solar energy. The saving is smaller — government estimates put plug-in solar at £70–£110 a year — but so is the barrier. It is the cheapest energy independence anyone in a flat is going to get.
That is why a manufacturer of GoodWe’s size registering in this category matters more than the individual models do. Established residential inverter brands moving into consumer plug-in hardware is how the German market developed, and it is a reasonable indicator of where UK solar is heading after 27 August 2026.
What it does not mean is that either registered device is close to being something you can buy.
Frequently Asked Questions
Are plug-in solar panels legal in the UK?
Not until 27 August 2026, and then only for compliant devices in England, Wales and Scotland. Before that date the DESNZ consultation response is explicit that these products cannot be sold or used lawfully in the United Kingdom, because they do not comply with the Plugs and Sockets etc. (Safety) Regulations 1994 or the Electricity Safety, Quality and Continuity Regulations 2002.
Is GoodWe a good solar brand?
Their rooftop inverter and storage record is a separate question from these two register entries, and a fair one to answer separately. What we can say is that nothing about GoodWe’s standing as an inverter manufacturer changes the position on the GW2K-EMA-UK-G10 or GW3K-EMA-UK-G10, which are not compliant today and have no published specification.
Can I buy a GoodWe plug-in solar kit in the UK?
Not these two. There is no retailer, price or announced release date for the GW2K-EMA-UK-G10 or GW3K-EMA-UK-G10, and nothing under the register’s Plug-in Solar type is currently compliant. GoodWe does list a balcony all-in-one, the ESA-Athena, but that is a different product with a battery in it — which puts it outside the plug-in route regardless.
